BARANGAY Ginebra was beaten black and blue in Game 5 of the 49th PBA Governors’ Cup Finals, but veteran head coach Tim Cone remains defiant, believing that the Kings can recover from the severe beating to force what could be a massive Game 7.
The defending champions TNT Tropang Giga pulled off a resounding 99-72 win on Wednesday night, November 6, and moved just a win away from retaining their crown.
Despite the 27-point loss, Cone still felt good about their chances, saying it was just one of those nights when Ginebra couldn’t do anything right.
"I know our fans feel bad about it, everybody feels bad, the team feels bad about it. But the bottom line is, it's just one game in the series. It could have happened in Game 1 or Game 2, or Game 3," said Cone per a pba.ph report.
Cone assured the Kings are ready to move on from the lopsided loss and will come well-prepared for the crucial Game 6.
"No one feels bad about losing a game like this than me. But we just got to move on, get ready for Game 6 and see what we can do."
TNT built several 30-point leads in Game 5 and went on to deal Ginebra its worst loss in a championship series since the Kings suffered a 94-132 defeat to the San Miguel Beermen, 132-94, in Game 3 of the 2018 Commissioner's Cup Finals.
While Cone remains optimistic of Ginebra’s chances, he is fully aware that the Kings will have to bring their A-game if they are to force a sudden-death game 7.
"Now our backs are to the wall and we have to come out with a little bit of desperation in Game 6," said Cone.
Game 6 will be played at the Araneta Coliseum and if necessary, Game 7 will take place on Sunday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.(CCM)
