PARTYGOERS won’t be able to party hard on Cebu City streets during the Sinulog Festival.
Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia has issued Executive Order No. 29, which strictly prohibits street parties and imposes firm regulations on business establishments and activities during the festival.
The directive, signed on Monday, January 6, aims to maintain public safety, ensure peace and order, and protect the solemnity of the city’s most iconic celebration.
“The conduct of [a] street party is strictly prohibited in any area within Cebu City from January 18 to January 19, 2025,” the order states.
Garcia emphasized that public thoroughfares must remain clear to avoid disruptions and ensure emergency and government services operate smoothly during the festival’s busiest days.
The order also bans concerts, gigs, and other noisy activities during specific hours along the Solemn Procession and Sinulog Parade routes.
“The following activities are prohibited along the Solemn Procession Route and Sinulog Parade Route between 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. of January 18 (Saturday) and between 12:01 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. of January 19 (Sunday), 2025,” Garcia declared.
Establishments wishing to host such events outside the restricted hours must secure special permits, submit security plans, and provide medical triage during their events.
Beyond regulating festivities, the executive order compels businesses to open their restrooms to the public, whether or not individuals are paying customers.
Establishments must also keep their CCTV cameras operational and provide footage when required, as well as clean their premises and surrounding areas during and after operating hours.
The liquor ban will also reshape how revelers celebrate Sinulog.
The sale, distribution, and consumption of alcoholic beverages are prohibited along the procession route from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on January 18, and within a 300-meter radius of the Sinulog Parade Route from 12:01 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on January 19.
Establishments outside these areas may sell alcohol, but consumption must remain within their premises.
In addition, Garcia prohibited the use of glass bottles and fragile containers to prevent accidents.
Violators of the executive order face severe penalties. Businesses that flout the regulations risk losing their permits, while individuals may face legal consequences.
“Violation of establishments or juridical entities shall cause the revocation of their business permit, while violation committed by individuals shall be dealt in accordance with law,” the mayor warned.
Garcia reiterated the need for these measures to ensure the safety of attendees and the smooth conduct of the festivities.
As the countdown to Sinulog 2025 begins, Cebu City’s government calls on the public to adhere to these rules, promising a safer and more organized festival for devotees and partygoers.(MyTVCebu)
