AFTER a short-lived main draw debut in the US Open, Alex Eala is hell-bent on picking up the pieces as she gears up for her next competition.

The 20-year-old Filipina tennis ace is heading to Brazil to vie in the Sao Paulo Open slated September 8.

Eala couldn’t make a deep run in the US Open, losing in the second round against Spain’s Cristina Bucșa, 4-6, 3-6. The youthful rising athlete actually had a fantastic start as she pulled off an epic 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (11) first-round win over World No. 15 Clara Tauson of Denmark.

“I wished I could’ve gone deeper this week, but it wasn’t meant to be,” Eala said in a social media post.

While her US Open stint came to a disappointing finish, Eala vowed to rebound and put in the needed work.

“I’ll be back stronger, but for now, it’s back to work!” she added. “Salamat, New York.”

Though she only managed a second-round showing, Eala’s stint in the US Open is expected to improve her Women’s Tennis Associaiton ranking.

Eala, an Asian and Southeast Asian Games bronze medalist, is currently ranked No. 70. The US Open stint also earned Eala $154,000 (P8,797,406) for reaching the second round.(CCM)
