PRESIDENT Bongbong Marcos appointed retired Supreme Court justice Andres Reyes Jr. as head of Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), an oversight body created to investigate alleged anomalies in the flood control projects.

Marcos emphasized on Reyes’ longstanding record of integrity and fairness as a factor for his appointment. He added that there will be no Palace interference on the commission’s ongoing probe to ensure credibility on investigation findings.

Reyes, who served as Court of Appeals presiding justice before joining the Supreme Court through the appointment of former President Rodrigo Duterte in 2017, said that the probe will be a “turning point” in the monitoring and management of government projects. He retired from the judiciary in 2020 and has since held positions in both private and public sectors.

Joining him in the ICI are former Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson, and SVG & Co. country managing partner Rossana Fajardo, while Baguio City Mayor and retired police general Benjamin Magalong will serve as special adviser and investigator.

Marcos underscored that the ICI’s probe would cover all parties involved, including his cousin House Speaker Martin Romualdez and former House appropriations chair Representative Zaldy Co.(Xienderlyn Trinidad, USJ-R Comm Intern)
