ALEX Eala has suffered a shoulder injury and will not be competing in the Cincinnati Open, which is set to start on August 5.
The development was announced by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) on Wednesday, July 30.
“Alexandra Eala has withdrawn from next month's Cincinnati Open with a shoulder injury,” the WTA said in a statement posted on its website.
The Cincinnati Open could have been Eala’s second tournament after taking a brief break. She competed in the 2025 National Bank Open in Montreal Canada last week but suffered a quick exit after losing to 2023 Wimbledon Open champion Marketa Vondrousova in the opening round.
The 20-year-old Eala is also scheduled to compete in the WTA 500 Monterrey Open in Mexico set in the third week of August. With the injury, it remains unclear if Eala will be able to participate in the Monterrey Open, which is supposed to be her last tournament before her much-awaited appearance in the main draw of the US Open.
Eala is currently ranked No. 65 in the world. She actually surged to a career-best No. 56 but took a huge plunge after her first-round exit in Wimbledon Open debut last July 1.(CCM)
