FILIPINO tennis sensation Alex Eala scored a resounding win to advance to the second round of the L&T Mumbai Open Tennis Championships on Monday, February 3, in India.

Eala flashed her deadly form and dominated Sara Saito of Japan, 6-0, 6-1.

The 19-year-old Eala cruised throughout the hour-long match that saw her never drop her serve. She raced to a 4-1 lead in the opening set and was never really challenged from that point on.

Eala will next play Nao Hibino of Japan and compatriot Mai Hontama.

Eala is gunning for a successful campaign to improve her world rankings. Eala ranked 134th last week but saw her rankings slip as she entered the week at No. 137.

Eala has already competed in two tournaments this year but failed to reach the title round on all occasions. (CCM)
