SINGER-SONGWRITER Morrissey has cancelled two US shows this week following what his team described as a credible threat to his safety.
The British musician was scheduled to perform at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut on September 19 and at the MGM Music Hall in Boston on September 20.
Both shows have now been called off, with ticket holders promised automatic refunds, a report by BBC stated.
The decision comes after Canadian authorities charged a 26-year-old man from Ottawa with issuing an online death threat against Morrissey earlier this month. The suspect allegedly posted a message on social media threatening to shoot the singer during his Ottawa performance on September 12. Although that concert went ahead under heightened security, police later arrested the man and released him on bail.
Morrisseyโs representatives said the cancellations were made โout of an abundance of cautionโ to protect both the artist and his audience. The rest of his North American tour is still expected to proceed as planned, though security measures will remain in place as investigations continue.(Ma. Victoria Diana, USJ-R Comm Intern)
