THE inaugural edition of Copa Cebu promises highly entertaining matches as over 100 teams from the Visayas have signed up for the keenly awaited tournament slated June 13 to 15 at the Dynamic Herb-Borromeo Sports Complex in Cebu City.
Organizers assured that all bases have been covered to ensure the smooth conduct of the festival-style three-day tournament.
In a press briefing on Sunday, June 8, tournament commissioner Renz Miko Murillo disclosed that the tournament will be run by veteran football organizers backed by a dynamic young group from RAD Chameleon, Warriors Turf, and Apex Sports and Production.
Volunteers from the Cebu School Athletic Federation Inc. have also been tapped to help organiz the tournament, said Murillo.
“They’re young but experienced, and they’re passionate about promoting grassroots sports in Cebu,” Murillo said.
With a word-class venue, Murillo said players, coaches, and their families can look forward to an enjoyable and comfortable atmosphere during the tournament.
“We’ve set up tents for the players, refilling stations around the field, and we’ve invited elite coaches to observe the matches. We want to show how attractive Cebu football can be,” Murillo added
Sanctioned by the Cebu Regional Football Association (CRFA), the tournament will feature various age-group categories such as Under-12, U13, U14, U15, U16, U17, and U19. It will also have a mixed U5-U11 categeory.
Adding spice to the tournament is the men’s and women’s open, Soccer Moms division, and a 38-above category.
“We plan to make it an annual tournament,” said Murillo.
