THE Bureau of Immigration (BI) has arrested a Chinese national after he was identified as the one who kicked and in the process killed a cat in Makati City.

The BI said Jiang Shan, 32, was arrested in his residence in Barangay Palanan, Makati last March 10.

In a report by Manila Bulletin, BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said Jiang was confirmed to be the person caught on security camera as the one who kicked and killed a sleeping cat at Ayala Triangle Gardens, Makati.

Additional investigation uncovered that he had been overstaying in the country.

“His cruel action led the BI to conduct checks on his records, and now he’s detained to be deported,” Viado said in the report.

According to BI records, Jiang arrived in the Philippines in May 2023 but failed to extend his visa beyond September 2023.

The foreigner is detained at the BI custody facility in Taguig City while awaiting deportation proceedings.(Nikelyn Pahayahay, BiPSU Comm Intern)
