THE Benedicto College (BC) Cheetahs prevailed in a duel with crucial playoff implications, downing the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars, 70-63, in the college division of the 24th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) Basketball Tournament on Tuesday night, November 12, at the Cebu Coliseum.
The victory kept the Cheetahs within striking distance of the leaders, tightening their grip of the third spot with their fifth win in the teams standings.
Leading the pack are the University of Cebu Webmasters, who hold a spotless 6-0 (win-loss) record. At close second are the defending champions University of the Visayas Green Lancers, who are 6-1.
Despite the loss, the Jaguars are still in a good position as they currently occupy the fourth spot with an even 4-4 record. USJ-R’s closest pursuer for the crucial fourth spot are the Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildkittens, who own a 2-3 ledger.
Only the top four teams after the elimination phase will advance to the semifinal round.
Denrick Orgong was at the forefront of BC’s critical win as he fired a game-high 21 points and also had eight rebounds, one assist, a steal, and a block.
Albert Joshua Tolipas chipped in 16 markers, Junil Bulan added 12 markers while Kenneth Babalcon tossed in seven points, 12 rebounds, four steals, three assists, and a block as the Cheetahs bounced back from a sorry 68-71 loss to the Green Lancers last Thursday.
