VETERAN Cebuano boxer Jason Canoy Manigos showed he still has a lot left in his tank after he snatched the Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) super featherweight title by knocking out Fernando Tagpuno Jr. in the Blow-by-Blow fight card on Sunday, December 1, at the Ramon Magsaysay Covered Court in Quezon City.
The 34-year-old Manigos, a native of Balamban, Cebu, knocked out the 22-year-old Tagpuno in the ninth round behind a flurry of punches to the head and body.
Manigos described the victory as bittersweet as Tagpuno was stretchered off the ring and was taken to a hospital.
“Nalipay ko nga ni daog ko, but naguol pod ko sa kahimtang sa akong kontra sa pagkakaron. Hope lang ko nga maka-recover siya og dali sa iyang kahimtang karon," Manigos said in an inetrview with Sports Ta, Bai.
Manigos said he was told by the card’s matchmaker, Art Monis, that Tagpuno was placed in the Intensive Care Unit due to possible blood clot in the head.
With the win, Manigos improved to 29W-12L-2D. Twelve of his wins came by knockout (KO).
The PBF superfeatherweight (130 pounds) is Manigos’ fourth title after also winning the 112, 115, and 118-pound weight divisions.
Tagpuno, a native of Bayugan, Agusan del Sur, suffered his fourth loss in 14 fights. All of his wins were via KO.(CCM)
