CEBU will host the pilot meeting of the newly formed Governors for Good Governance (G4GG) in the first week of October 2025.
Governor Pamela Baricuatro said the coalition takes inspiration from the Mayors for Good Governance (M4GG), which includes Baguio City Mayor Benjie Magalong, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, and Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte.
The group has become known for promoting anti-corruption practices and building future-ready local governments.
In a press conference on Wednesday, Sept. 24, Baricuatro highlighted Cebu’s reforms as examples that other provinces can adopt.
“I think one of the things that I would want to share with them is what we are doing with our BAC (Bidding and Awards Committee). Online na atoang bidding process sa Kapitolyo,” she said.
She added that several governors have asked how to replicate Cebu’s online bidding system, and she welcomed the idea.
“Actually there are governors asking me about it if they can replicate what we are doing here in Cebu, I said ‘of course, that is also our advocacy’ towards other governors,” she added.
According to Baricuatro, the Governors for Good Governance will push for transparency and accountability in provincial governments, while encouraging resilience-building programs that put citizens’ welfare above political interests.
She earlier spoke about the coalition during a media briefing on September 10, where she first confirmed her plan to form the group.
That came after she met with Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto, who shared tips and guidelines on how to launch the initiative.
Baricuatro said Sotto’s advice gave her a clearer idea on how to move forward, and she noted that the Pasig mayor may visit Cebu soon for an M4GG event.
In her earlier announcements, Baricuatro also cited her recent meetings with national leaders.
On September 3, she met with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who administered her oath as vice president for Ways and Means of the League of Provinces of the Philippines during its special general assembly.
On September 6, she met Vice President Sara Duterte in Manila to discuss governance matters and also talked about former President Rodrigo Duterte.
Baricuatro said these engagements gave her the opportunity to learn from different leaders and strengthen her network of allies who also support reform-driven governance.(MyTVCebu)
