POLITICAL support groups under the wing of former President Rodrigo Duterte will stage a national indignation rally to call for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to step down.

The event, which marks the 52nd anniversary of former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.'s Martial Law declaration, is set for Plaza Independencia in Cebu on September 21, 2024.

Simultaneous rallies will be held in Manila and Davao City.

Organizers plan the event to oppose what they view as a return to dictatorship under Marcos Jr.'s administration.

They call on the public to unite in protest against what they describe as government abuses and authoritarian tendencies.

They accuse the president of dragging the nation into economic decline, arguing that ordinary Filipinos face inflation, poverty, and rising crime.

Irene Caballes, lead convenor of the Cebu Coalition for Transparency, Accountability, Peace and Security, said that political persecution, particularly against Duterte's allies, has intensified under Marcos Jr.'s leadership.

She cited instances of harassment and alleged that those connected to the Marcos family abuse their power while enjoying impunity.

Caballes also pointed to a growing economic divide, saying that while many Filipinos struggle to make ends meet, the wealthy few continue to amass even greater riches.

Meanwhile, Pamela Baricuatro, leader of the Maisug movement in Cebu, announced that they anticipate at least 2,000 participants for the rally, with more groups likely to confirm their attendance.

Baricuatro urged participants to wear black as a symbol of "pagluksa" or mourning.

Organizers added that while they have not directly invited any former or current politicians, they are welcome to attend.(MyTVCebu)
