A CEBU City councilor is calling on telecommunications companies to address persistent concerns over poor signal quality affecting residents.

The proposed resolution urges Globe Telecom, Inc., Smart Communications, Inc., and DITO Telecommunity Corporation to appear in an executive session with the city council to explain and address these recurring issues.

Councilor Nestor Archival submitted the resolution on Wednesday, September 18, highlighting the impact of poor signal quality, especially for post-paid subscribers.

He added that the use of digital mobile communication "has become essential for business, leisure, and various transactions."

Despite this importance, many users continue to encounter unreliable service, leading to additional costs when calls fail and require redialing.

"It is important for the digital mobile telecommunication service providers to address and provide explanations for the inadequate signal quality," he stated in his resolution.

He emphasized that subscribers expect high-quality service, which they are not consistently receiving.

This call for accountability stems from increasing complaints about signal issues that affect both prepaid and post-paid users in the city.

The councilor also invoked Section 16 of Republic Act No. 7160, the Local Government Code of 1991, which authorizes local government units to promote the general welfare.

Archival pointed out that under this law, the city council "shall enact ordinances, approve resolutions, and appropriate funds for the general welfare of the city and its inhabitants."

If the resolution is approved, the council will formally invite the three telecom companies to an executive session to discuss the current state of signal quality in Cebu City and explore potential solutions.

By pushing for this meeting, Archival aims to ensure that telecommunications providers are held accountable and that subscribers in Cebu City receive the reliable mobile services they are entitled to.(MyTVCebu)
