Britney Spears nabbed on suspicion of DUI

POP icon Britney Spears has been arrested in California on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The singer was detained by the California Highway Patrol at around 9:30 p.m. local time on Wednesday after authorities received reports that a BMW was being driven erratically at high speed on a motorway, a report by BBC said.

Officers said Spears showed signs of impairment and was asked to complete a series of field sobriety tests after being pulled over while driving alone on the southbound lanes of U.S. Route 101.

Spears was released from jail early Thursday morning and is scheduled to appear at Ventura County Superior Court on May 4.

The report added that Spears was briefly taken to a medical facility for blood tests as part of California’s drink-driving procedures.

A representative for Spears told the BBC the incident was “an unfortunate situation” and said the singer plans to take the necessary steps to comply with the law and seek support.
