AS THE global tourism industry fully recovers from pandemic restrictions, the municipality of Badian in southwest Cebu is celebrating a landmark achievement after it recorded close to 100 percent increase in tourist arrivals in 2024,

Tourism Officer Earl Vincent Endab said Badian enjoyed a 96 percent increase in tourist arrivals last year when it welcomed 494,657 visitors.

Endab said the growth far surpasses the 252,200 recorded in 2023, signaling a triumphant resurgence for the town's tourism sector.

Endab praised the collective efforts of the community and local stakeholders in driving this success.

"Badian, Cebu, proudly celebrates a record-breaking year in tourism, with a 96 percent increase in visitor arrivals, totaling 494,657 in 2024," Endab told MyTVCebu.

Endab added that the achievement "is a testament to the collective efforts of the local government, tourism stakeholders, and the vibrant community that has worked tirelessly to showcase the town’s unparalleled natural beauty and cultural heritage."

Both domestic and international visitors contributed to the growth. Of the total number of visitors, Endab said 248,237 locals and 246,420 foreign tourists explored the municipality’s attractions.

Endab highlighted the economic ripple effects of the tourism boom, which has brought increased revenue and job opportunities for the community.

"This success story would not have been possible without the support of our local businesses, tour operators, tour guides, and residents, who have played a vital role in welcoming and accommodating tourists," he said.

"The economic benefits, from increased revenues to more job opportunities, are felt throughout the community, enabling further development and progress," he added.

Meanwhile, Endab said they are looking forward to bringing Badian's tourism to greater heights with the implementation of the Badian Tourism Development Plan 2025–2030, which aims to bolster growth while ensuring sustainability and environmental conservation.

He emphasized that the plan will prioritize environmental protection in development. Key attractions like Kawasan Falls, Lambug Beach, and canyoneering adventures have thrived due to the municipality’s commitment to responsible tourism practices.

"We remain committed to sustainable tourism, ensuring that our natural resources are preserved and that the benefits of our growth reach every corner of our community," he said.

With this milestone year marking its recovery and growth, Badian is poised to achieve even greater strides in the tourism industry while ensuring long-term benefits for its people and environment.(MyTVCebu)
