A LOW-PRESSURE area (LPA) may develop into a tropical depression within the next 48 hours, potentially bringing rains across Luzon.

If the weather disturbance intensifies, it will be the country’s next named storm, “Paolo,” and could make its presence felt by Thursday, Oct. 2, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

The state weather bureau noted that the system’s path may traverse Luzon, but its exact track and impact remain under close monitoring.

These easterlies, the Pagasa said, will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies nationwide, with chances of isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms. Hot and humid conditions are expected during the day, while thunderstorms may develop in the late afternoon or evening.

The bureau also warned of localized thunderstorms that could bring sudden heavy rains, lightning, and strong winds. Residents are advised to take precautions against flash floods in low-lying areas and landslides in upland communities.

Meanwhile, coastal waters across the country will remain slight to moderate, with wave heights reaching up to 2.1 meters. Fisherfolk and those using small seacraft are advised to remain vigilant, especially in the eastern seaboards.

Based on PAGASA’s extended weather outlook until October 3, generally fair weather with isolated thunderstorms is expected in most parts of the country. This includes Metro Manila, Baguio, Clark, Tagaytay, Legazpi, Cebu, Tacloban, Davao, and Zamboanga, among others.

The public was urged to monitor official advisories in the coming days as the LPA continues to move closer to the Philippine Area of Responsibility.(Xienderlyn Trinidad, USJ-R Comm Intern)v
