WHERE will former Philippine National Police chief Nicolas Torre III go next?

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is reportedly considering a new assignment for Torre, signaling continued confidence in his leadership and experience, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said.

Torre was relieved from his post on August 25 after a brief three-month tenure, a decision described by Remulla in a Philstar report as “difficult but necessary.” The move was not prompted by any legal or administrative violations.

According to Remulla, Torre did not break any laws nor face any criminal or administrative charges. Rather, as a presidential appointee, he serves at the president’s discretion, and Marcos decided to take the leadership of the PNP in a different direction.

Despite his relief, Marcos remains very fond of Torre. Remulla said the president and the former PNP chief maintained a productive working relationship both during Torre’s brief tenure as PNP chief and earlier as head of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG). He also noted that Marcos sees Torre as capable of contributing to other critical positions in the government, citing his organizational skills and extensive experience in public service.

Lt. Gen. Jose Nartatez Jr., previously the PNP’s second-in-command, was named officer in charge following Torre’s departure.

The reshuffle came after the National Police Commission reversed several of Torre’s personnel assignments, including the posting of Nartatez and other senior officials, a development Remulla said was among the factors considered by the president.(MyTVCebu)
