FILIPINO pool players are putting a strong showing in the ongoing 2025 Florida Open Pool Championship at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando.
Five more Filipinos have advanced to the Last 64 knockout stage in the tournament that offers a whopping $40,000 (around P2.2 million) cash prize to the champion.
Carlo Biado, Johann Chua, and Bernie Regalario were the firsts to advance to the Last 64 before Lee Vann Corteza, Patric Gonzales, Marvin Asis, Harry Vergara, and Roberto Gomez followed suit.
However, two other Filipino bets were unlucky as Jefrey Roda lost to American Tyler Styer, 6-9, and Michael Baoanan , who yielded to Poland’s Szymon Kural, 4-9, to bow out of contention.
The eight remaining Filipino cue artists will be playing in a race-to-10 format in the Last 64.
In the Last 64, Biado goes up Ukraine’s Vitaly Patsura, Chua faces local bet Hunter Lombardo, Regalario over battles Harry Vergara, Corteza takes on Spaniard veteran Francisco Sanchez Ruiz, Gomez clashes with Singapore’s Aloysiu Yapp, Gonzales tackles Great Britain’s Elliot Sanderson, and Asis tangles with Indonesia’s Albert Januarta.(CCM)
