THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported that seven Filipino workers were wounded in a string of attacks on Saudi Arabia.

Three of the seven injured Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) were in critical condition, the DFA said on Monday, Oct. 19.

The DFA, along with the Department of Migrant Workers, is closely working with Saudi authorities to ensure that the affected OFWs are being attended to.

In a report by Philstar, the DFA called the attacks “a grave threat to regional peace and stability.”

“The Philippine Government calls on all parties to cease hostilities and to pursue a peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomacy,” the DFA said.

Yemen’s Houthis have claimed responsibility for missile and drone strikes on several Saudi targets, including the King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.

Last Oct. 10, 12 people were killed and 309 others were injured in what was described by Saudi authorities as the deadliest attack in the kingdom in more than a decade.

The Houthis started attacking Saudi airports, oil facilities and tankers since a truce in Yemen’s long-running war broke down in July.

The conflic is part of a broader regional conflict that stems from the war that broke out on February 28 when the United States and Israel attacked Iran.

The DFA said there are about one million Filipinos living in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia is the third-largest source of remittances from OFWs, behind the United States and Singapore, the report said.(MyTVCebu)
