4 squads out, 8 advance to PBA Govs’ Cup quarterfinals

IT’S down to eight teams in the 49th PBA Governors’ Cup as quarterfinal round action will begin on Wednesday, September 25, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Only the top four teams from the two brackets made it to the quarterfinals, which will be played via best-of-five affairs.

In Bracket A, the top four teams are the TNT Tropang Giga, Meralco Bolts, Converge FiberXers, and Magnolia Hotshots. The top four squads in Bracket B are the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, San Miguel Beermen, Barangay Ginebra Kings, and NLEX Road Warriors.

Booted out from playoff contention were the NorthPort Batang Pier, Terrafirma Dyip, Blackwater Bossing, and Phoenix Fuel Masters.

The top four teams in each bracket will play in the crossover which means TNT will battle NLEX, Rain or Shine will take on Magnolia, San Miguel Beer will face Converge, and Barangay Ginebra will clash with Meralco.

Winners in the TNT vs. NLEX and Rain or Shine vs. Magnolia duel will face each other in a best-of-seven semifinal series.

The two other semifinalists will come from the Meralco vs. Ginebra, San Miguel vs. Converge encounters.

Semifinal winners will then fight for the championship via a race-to-four series.(CCM)
