PROVING once more that it is the go-to destination for adventure seekers, Danao City successfully hosted the 3rd Danao City International Ultra Trail over weekened.

Hundreds of trail run enthusiasts answered the starting gun, hurdling the city’s lung-busting but picturesque terrains in the tournament that dangled more than P1 million in cash prizes.

“The whole experience...it was brutal. Aside from the elevation that was so high, the race was made even harder because of the heat,” said Elizabeth Dangadang, the 100-kilometer overall champion.

Dangadang pocketed a whopping P100,000 for her feat.

While it was a test of mental and physical fortitude, Dangadang said the competition was an experience to remember.

Smooth organizing and the presence of personnel for much-needed assistance made the race challening yet enjoyable, she said.

“I did enjoy, especially the community, the terrains. The medics were very helpful..they helped us survive the “good suffering”,” the runner from Baguio City added.

The cash-rich event saw the top three winners in the 100-KM categories receive P100,000, P70,000, and P40,000, respectively.

Winners in all distances and age-group categories also got cash prizes and 3D trophies.

In his speech during the awarding ceremony, Danao Mayor Nito Durano said the succesful staging of the competition was a result of cooperation.

“I would like to extend my congratulations to everyone who made this year’s event a success from every local government unit personnel involved, barangay officals and perssonnel and to the communites within the route,” Durano said.

Durano said the throng of participants who came from various parts of the country showed that the competition is one of the highly anticipated footraces in the country.

“A warm congratulations to all the participants for hurdling the challenge of this year’s race. Thank you for making Danao City a world-class trail destination,” Durano said,

The mayor commended those who answered the starting gun for showing “human will and unbreakable human spirit.”

Staging the competition cemented Danao’s reputation as a city that promotes a healthy lifestyle, Durano said.

“I hope that you experiened our people and our city’s deep appreciation for an active and healthy lifestyle. Every person who wishes to be fit and healthy is an honorary citizen of Danao and you are always welcome to our city,” the mayor said.

With the success of the event, the city will be gunning for a more eventful competition next year.

“We hope to see you again next year,” Durano concluded.(CCM)
