A PAIR of championship showdowns will cap another successful season of the Mandaue Pride Basketball Association (MPBA).
After months of action-packed hardcourt duels, only four teams remain and will contend for the championships in the Elite and Premier Divisions of the MPBA Commissioner’s Cup Season.
The twin title showdowns are scheduled on November 30 at the Mandaue City Sports Complex.
Fighting for the Elite Division crown are Artera Builders and the defending champions ARQ Builders while squaring off for the Premier Division title are Metro Cars and Welec.
Artera earned a championship berth after beating Steadfast Builders, 79-75, in their semifinal match over the weekend at the Cebu Port Authority Gym.
Kenneth Brillo, a former University of the Visayas Green Lancer, topped Artera with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and three assists. Joseph Cabahug and Paul Sungahid backed Brilo with 17 and 16 markers, respectively.
Miguel Gastador led Steadfast with 28 points, four rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Rendell Senining had 16 points in the loss.
Welec booked its own championship ticket in the Premier Division via an 87-75 semifinal win over Void
Mark Monte was superb for Welec as he finished with eye-popping numbers of 30 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists. Welec also got a huge lift from Francis Monteron, who tallied 23 points and Tawee Canedo, who piled up 12 points and 20 rebounds.
Void was led by Byron Lawton’s 21 points. James Balili and Jhon Rey Gequilan pitched in 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Metro Cars made it to the title round behind a 99-82 victory over the Flago Prayboys.
Dwight Godinez led Metro Cars with 17 points, 12 assists, four rebounds, and three steals.(CCM)
