BASKETBALL junkies are in for another huge treat as the world’s brightest basketball stars battle once again in the 2024-25 NBA season, which gets underway on Wednesday (Philippine time), October 23.

Two explosive matches will usher in the brand new season with the Boston Celtics kicking off their back-to-back championship bids against the new-look New York Knicks at 7:30 a.m.

Capping the two-game opening day is the Western Conference duel between the LA Lakers and the visiting Minnesota Timberwolves.

Still expected to rely heavily on the deadly duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, the Celtics are looking for a repeat, something that they have not achieved since 1968 and 1969.

Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, and Kristaps Porzingis are the key players that the Celtics can count on. It has been reported that based on betting trends, the Celtics are favorites to win a second-straight title. Tatum is also a front-runner to win this season’s Most Valuable Player award.

Boston will be going up against a New York team that shook up its roster just a few weeks before the season opens.

The Knicks parted ways with Donte DiVincenzo and Julius Randle, who were traded to the Timberwolves. In return, New York got sweet-shooting big man Karl-Anthony Towns, who will be teaming up with Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, OG Anunoby, and Cameron Payne.

The Lakers, on the other hand, made a lot of noise in the off-season when they drafted Bronny James Jr., who will be teaming up with his 39-year-old father LeBron James.

Should LeBron and Bronny play together on the court, they will be the first father-son duo ever on the court together in an NBA game. The biggest offseason shake-up that the Lakers did was firing Darvin Ham and hiring JJ Redick as head coach.(CCM)
