10 die in Baguio City landslide
TEN persons have been confirmed dead from the landslide in Barangay Guisad Surong in Baguio City.
In an update issued at 2:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 11, the Baguio City Public Information Office (PIO) said all 13 missing persons have been accounted for following the latest rescue of three individuals.
Last Monday night, Aug. 10, authorities reported that 11 individuals had been recovered—eight dead and three alive—while two remained missing, a report by Inquirer.net said.
The landslide happened on Sunday night as heavy rains continued in Baguio and other parts of the country due to the southwest monsoon, or habagat.
The city’s Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) had extended assistance to the 20 families affected by the landslide last Sunday night.
“CSWDO personnel reported to the area last night and activated two evacuation centers at the Guisad Barangay Hall and Baguio International Academy to provide safe temporary shelter for the displaced families,” the city's PIO said.(MyTVCebu)
