SEN. Imee Marcos has already spearheaded the conduct of three hearings that looked into the arrest of former president Rodrigo Duterte by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

While it was during the hearings that Marcos as well as some pro-Duterte senators raised issues purportedly showing that there were irregularities in the arrest of Duterte, the former president’s partner isn’t impressed.

For Honeylet Avanceña, Marcos leading the conduct og the hearings was just for a show.

“Pa-ekek na lang yon,” Avanceña said per a report by Philippine Star.

Avanceña made the remarks outside the ICC prison where Duterte is detained in The Hague.

In local parlance, “Ekek” means gimmickry or empty talk.

Avanceña is not even convinced that Marcos is really against the arrest of Duterte.

“Hindi ako naniniwala doon (I don’t believe in her) … Tanong siya na ‘ano ba talaga nangyari’? Hindi ba niya nakita ang nangyari? (She asks what happened. Didn’t she see what happened?),” Avanceña added.

Vice President Sara Duterte had been asked if she would support Marcos’ reelection bid after the presidential daughter led the conduct of the hearings.

The vice president said she has yet to decide on the matter although the midterm election is less than a month away and Marcos remains outside the so-called Magic 12 winners’ circle in surveys.

Marcos has withdrawn from the administration coalition’s Senate slate. The withdrawal came after President Marcos stopped mentioning her in campaign sorties.
