THE Converge FiberXers have just added more teeth to their already potent frontline.

Gearing up for the upcoming 50th PBA Commissioner’s Cup, the FiberXers acquired high-energy forward Calvin Abueva from the Titan Ultra Giant Risers, who in turn got King Caralipio, Mark Omega, and Rey Suerte.

The deal was approved by the PBA trade committee on Tuesday, Feb. 3.

It will be a homecoming of sorts for Abueva as the enigmatic player joined a Converge team that bought the franchise of the now defunct Alaska Aces, who drafted him as the second overall pick in the 2012 draft.

When Alaska left the league in 2022, Abueva, the 2013 Rookie of the Year, went on to play for several teams. From Alaska, Abueva moved to the Phoenix Fuel Masters then to the Magnolia Hotshots.

After his surprising departure from Magnolia, the 6-foot-3 forward suited up for the NorthPort Batang Pier, whose franchise was sold to Titan.

Abueva had a strong showing in the recently concluded Philippine Cup where he ranked third in the Best Player of the Conference race after averaging 23.6 points a game.

At Converge, Abueva will be teaming up with youthful big men Justine Baltazar and Justin Arana.

Abueva will now play under head coach Delta Pineda with whom he has a long-standing mentor-mentee relationship.(CCM)
