MALACAÑANG Palace has announced that more than 16,000 reports of alleged irregularities in flood control projects have been filed through the government’s Sumbong sa Pangulo platform.
The complaints will be referred to the newly established Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), said Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro in a Philstar report.
Castro said the platform received 16,275 reports, complaining of alleged infrastructure anomalies.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. introduced the website in August as a platform for citizens to flag non-operational or irregular flood control projects, several of which he personally inspected.
The president also created the ICI under Executive Order No. 94 to probe questionable infrastructure projects from the past decade. The body, chaired by retired Supreme Court justice Andres Reyes Jr., held its first meeting Tuesday at the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) main office in Manila.
The commission includes former DPWH chief Rogelio Singson and SGV & Co. country managing partner Rossana Fajardo, with Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong serving as special adviser.
But as the probe begins, the Palace has also traded barbs with Vice President Sara Duterte, who dismissed the ICI as ineffective. Castro fired back, saying Duterte was out of touch with the administration’s ongoing actions against corruption.(Xienderlyn Trinidad, USJ-R Comm Intern)
